Public lecture: Privacy, Security and Data Protection in Smart Cities: a Critical EU Perspective
Free public lecture by Lilian Edwards, Professor of E-Governance from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. Lilian will be sharing learnings from her paper titled ‘Privacy, security and data protection in smart cities: a critical EU perspective’. It will be put forward that smart cities combine the two greatest current threats to personal privacy, with which regulation has so far failed to deal effectively; the Internet of Things or "ubiquitous computing"; and "Big Data". These issues are prominent as unresolved issues in the chequered recent history of reforming European data protection.
