Adelaide Law School Scholarships available to Domestic students
- D A Robertson – a lasting legacy of kindness
In the 1930s, Donald Alexander Robertson was studying law by day at the University of Adelaide and working nights in order to pay for his university fees and living expenses.
Going on to become a successful barrister, Donald's granddaughter, Rhona Margaret Seiler says her grandfather never forgot the financial difficulties he had experienced as a law student.
"The struggle to balance his study and work left an indelible impression on him," she said.
In his retirement, Robertson talked to his family of his desire to help students who were experiencing similar financial hardship.
The D A Robertson Scholarship was established by a bequest from the Estate of Donald's daughter Viney Robertson in memory of her late father, as well as a gift from Rhona, his granddaughter.
"It is a privilege to be able to help students in a small way to face life's difficulties by helping them to complete their education and embark on their careers" said Rhona.

About Bob Piper
Bob Piper has been practising law for over 60 years. He decided to become a lawyer to follow in his grandfather and father’s footsteps who became Judges of the Supreme Court. Bob was always in awe of their professionalism and standing in the community.
His appointment as National President of the National Trust was one of Bob’s proudest professional moments together with his appointment to the Board of The Advertiser Newspapers and when he acted as a Barrister to succeed in obtaining the first FM Radio Licence in Adelaide.
Bob really enjoyed the environment at The University of Adelaide and meeting people, especially those who had returned from overseas war service. Bob was a member of the Adelaide University Regiment which mounted a guard at Government House to protect the Queen on her visit in 1954. Bob believes that having the degree lectured by committed lecturers that include Professors is a valuable experience for students.
If Bob were asked what piece of advice he would provide to aspiring young lawyers, he would say to read a book called “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie as “there will be a million times this will be useful to you in ticklish situations”.
Congratulations to Kellie Grubb who was awarded the Bob Piper Law scholarship for 2015

The recipients of the 2014 D A Robertson Scholarship, Mark and 2014 DBH Scholarship, Cathryn are examples of the positive impact that financial assistance can make to a student’s life.
“ It is a great honour to be awarded such a prestigious scholarship and I am extremely fortunate and grateful to benefit from this support. I am financially independent, and as such, this award has been of great assistance to me. In particular, the funds received from this scholarship have covered a large proportion of my ongoing living and education expenses, which has subsequently allowed me to focus on completing my studies without the stress and burden of financial hardship.” - Mark
“ Education was the only way not to follow the path my parents chose and that hard work can get you anywhere. From the very first induction lecture, my eyes were opened to the many possibilities and opportunities that studying law could provide. Your support to myself, and others like me is a generous gift and words cannot possibly express my gratitude. Thank you for awarding me this scholarship; it gives me the confidence that I too can one day be a part of this esteemed and enlightened community. Thank You.” - Cathryn
