Adelaide Legal Outreach Service (ALOS) was established in 2005.
The service was the initiative of three Adelaide Law School lecturers with a passion for justice access - Margaret Castles, Kath McEvoy and Alex Warwyk. ALOS partnered with Westcare Day Centre, part of Baptist Care SA, to set up a free legal advice service for homeless and disadvantaged people in the community. This was made possible with a grant from the Law Foundation of SA Inc.
Since 2005, the service has operated once a week (Fridays) from the Westcare premises situated on Wright Street, Adelaide. This partnership with Westcare has enabled ALOS to help hundreds of clients with a variety of legal problems, both large and small. Law students, under the supervision of legal practitioners and lecturers from Adelaide Law School, have worked to assist members of the community in need and provide advice and support to South Australians who would otherwise not be aware of their rights and obligations.
Over the years, ALOS has built up links with other service providers who can send people with legal problems direct to us for help.
Like most other Law Schools in Australia, Adelaide Law School is committed to making a real difference in the community. ALOS is one way that we can help to ensure justice is done in our community.
