Some preliminary work has already been undertaken by Wilfrid Prest on various aspects of Blackstone's career and life. Besides a 6,000 word brief life commissioned for the Oxford Dictionary of Biography, articles and essays already published, in press or delivered as conference and seminar papers include discussions of his religious beliefs and autobiographical writing, as well as the structure and publishing history of the Commentaries .
