"My postgraduate study at the University of Adelaide Law School has been instrumental in advancing my career. It equipped me with a deeper understanding of legal principles, advanced critical thinking, and enhanced my analytical skills. This course, combined with networking opportunities, has opened doors to more specialised roles in my field."

“I enjoyed meeting the other students and the instructors. As this is a professional qualification, everyone had aspects of life and professional history in common, but a wide variety of experience. In addition, because the course was conducted online, I have made friends and new colleagues around Australia. This course was absolutely worthwhile for anyone with an interest in working as an arbitrator or expert determiner, or even just people who are involved in arbitration or expert determination in their other professions.”

"I have been practising as a solicitor in the building and construction sector since 2014. I completed the Professional Certificate in Arbitration in 2020."

"The course involves fortnightly tutorials, regular homework, a mock arbitration and written exams. The tutors and administrators are knowledgeable, experienced, patient and friendly."

"I found the course to be informative and worthwhile. You will learn about the relevant legislation and its application in detail, as well as the various practical steps that an arbitrator must take when hearing and determining a matter. As a solicitor presenting in alternative dispute resolution forums, having a deeper understanding and appreciation for the decision-maker’s role has been very helpful."

"I attended the 2016 Professional Certificate of Arbitration course and I thought it was excellent. I run several small businesses and we are heavily involved in intellectual property, mergers/acquisitions, commercial services contracts, and it is not unusual for us to have minor disputes. My main driver for undertaking this program was to gain more understanding about commercial dispute resolution. Having previously studied at the University of Adelaide, I anticipated that the course would be of a high quality and I was not disappointed. The blend of face to face lessons, online weekly tutorials and reading lists worked very well. The workload could be intensive, however this is a type of program where the more effort one exerts into study, the greater the learning outcomes and impacts achieved. Not being a lawyer, I was somewhat concerned that I would be left behind, however, in retrospect I would recommend that any individual with basic contract administration experience will be able to successfully undertake and complete this program, with a bit of hard work. Since completing the course, I have developed a practical understanding of dispute resolution and understand the actual outcomes and costs of commercial dispute resolution. I have also gained a better understanding of the types of dispute resolution available and how to craft commercial contracts to make use of these forms of alternative dispute resolution. Whilst this course is designed to lead to grading as a commercial arbitrator, I believe it would be useful for many professionals that have an interest in or work in dispute resolution as part of their current role."

Martin Luitingh

"I have been an advocate in South Africa since 1979 and a solicitor and barrister in Australia since 1997. Throughout my career I have appeared in many mediations and arbitrations as a representative of one of the parties in the dispute. In 2014 I decided that presenting and adjudicating arbitrations were different skills and I enrolled in the Professional Certificate in Arbitration to obtain skills in adjudication. I was surprised by the level of detail required to bridge the enormous paradigm shift in the approach to conflict. The course was designed to and honed in on the significant differences and the hands on practical training was of great value. Any barrister however experienced, who has not had the benefit of this kind of training will certainly be disadvantaged when crossing the divide between presenting and adjudication. This course comes highly recommended."

"As a Professional Engineer and Adjudicator, I recently completed the Professional Certificate in Arbitration in 2016 through the University of Adelaide to further my skills and knowledge in Arbitration. I felt the combination of both distance learning and interactive workshops allowed flexibility in completing the course with an interactive learning environment, with the externally facilitated workshops and mock arbitrations giving real-life insights. I would recommend the course to both legal and non-legal professionals wishing to improve their understanding of commercial arbitration in Australia or those wanting to become an Arbitrator."
