On 9 Dec, RUMLAE members Prof Dale Stephens, A/Prof Matthew Stubbs and Dr Stacey Henderson participated in an International Law Memorial Workshop hosted by the University of South Australia to celebrate the work and scholarship of the late Professor Ivan Shearer RFD AM.

The event was well attended by scholars from around South Australia as well as nationally and included a powerful keynote speech by The Hon Michael Kirby AC CMG.The event was then modeled around synchronous panel sessions that dealt with a broad range of areas that Prof Shearer worked and researched in. Papers were presented that dealt with multiple aspects of Prof Shearer's scholarship.  These papers included the topics of the Law of Naval Warfare by Prof Stephens, Space Law by A/Prof Matthew Stubbs and The Responsibility to Protect doctrine by Dr Henderson.

Subsequent to this event, on 11 Dec RUMLAE members Prof Stephens and Dr Stacey Henderson participated in a forum hosted by the South Australian Red Cross dealing with the issue of 'Journalists and the Law of Armed Conflict'.  There was a showing of the movie 'A Private War' at this event followed by a panel discussion and a lively Q & A session.  The audience included a large number of University of Adelaide Law School students and was expertly coordinated by Adelaide Law student Ms Elliette Kirkbride who is the Red Cross Community Engagement Network coordinator for the Red Cross.  The Forum was was facilitated by Prof Stephens and the participants in the Panel included Ms Tory Shephard a Journalist from The Advertiser, Ms Kate Reece from Defence and Dr Stacey Henderson from Adelaide University Law School.
