Adelaide Law School Dean appointed

Professor Judith McNamara has been appointed as the new Dean of Law at the University of Adelaide’s Adelaide Law School.

Professor McNamara will bring her substantial experience to South Australia’s top law school, where she will lead the continuing provision of world-class education to future generations of legal experts.

As the current Head of School at Queensland University of Technology’s School of Law Judith is well equipped for her new role.

“I am honoured and delighted to be the next Dean of the Adelaide Law School. The School is renowned for its world-class research and legal education and its deep connections with the legal community,” said Professor McNamara.

“I look forward to meeting the legal community in Adelaide and to working with the Law School as it continues to build a just society through its excellent research, community engagement and the influence of its graduates.”

Judith has extensive experience of legal education in Australia. Her areas of teaching expertise include contract and business law, legal research and work integrated learning. In particular, Judith has expertise in curriculum design, including learning and teaching pedagogies relevant to ensuring students are prepared for legal practice.

She completed a Bachelor of Economics in 1988 at the University of Queensland, which was followed by a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) in 1990, and a Master of Laws from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in 2004.

The University of Adelaide’s Professor John Williams, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Economics, said Professor McNamara will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Adelaide Law School.

“The Adelaide Law School is South Australia’s oldest law school, established in 1883, so it was imperative we found a Dean of Law with a wealth of knowledge and experience to guide the Law School well into the future, as well as adding further expertise and value to our fantastic law programs,” he said.

“We are thrilled to have Judith on board. Her outstanding background in legal education will allow our students to continue to succeed in legal education.”

Judith will commence her role as Dean of Law at Adelaide Law School in June 2022.
