Inaugural Lorne Neudorf Cup

Ilya and Bruce holding trophy

Recently, a social evening of salutation, sport and snacks was held on Level 5 of the Ligertwood building.

The event provided an important opportunity for first year law students to come together and mingle with staff, to get to know each other better, and to foster a greater sense of connectedness, place and belonging at the Adelaide Law School. It was also the inaugural run of the Lorne Neudorf Cup – an (elite) round robin air hockey tournament!

The Cup is dedicated to Professor Lorne Neudorf, a much-loved previous staff member, who kindly donated his air hockey table to the students upon his relocation interstate. Competition for the Cup was fierce and congratulations go to Ilya Aidman as winner and Bryce Williams as runner-up!

The Cup is a perpetual trophy, now engraved with Ilya’s name in perpetuity and on display in the Law School. Prizes will be awarded to the winner and the runner-up.

A great night was had by all, full of camaraderie, friendly competition and pizza, all to the tunes of DJ Justin Lloyd. This will be an ongoing bi-annual event, and the next tournament will be held in Semester 2 this year, when Ilya will have to return and defend his title.

Without doubt, the event met its aim of consolidating a sense of student-staff togetherness at the Adelaide Law School, and a welcoming sense of place in the Ligertwood. The organisers (first year coordinators, Joshua Curtis and Michaela Okninski) would like to sincerely thank all those involved, especially the students themselves, Mark Giancaspro, Julia Avdeeva, Anita Gayen and Judith McNamara.
