Law Reform Class visits State Parliament for insightful discussion on Legislative Process
On 12 June 2025, students from the Law Reform class had the privilege of visiting South Australia’s Parliament House, accompanied by Professor John Williams and Associate Professor David Plater.
The group was warmly welcomed by the Hon John Rau SC, former Attorney-General, and the Hon Josh Teague, Shadow Attorney-General, for a thought-provoking and informative session.
The visit included a guided tour of Parliament and a rare opportunity for students to engage in a bipartisan discussion on the legislative process, lawmaking in practice, and the broader context of law reform in South Australia.
The conversations offered valuable insights into how legal theory and academic learning intersect with real-world political and legislative dynamics. Students were encouraged to critically reflect on the challenges and opportunities of shaping law reform in a contemporary setting.
We extend our sincere thanks to Mr Rau and Mr Teague for their generosity of time and spirit, and for sharing their perspectives with the next generation of legal professionals and law reformers. The class plays an important role to inform and support the work of the independent South Australian Law Reform Institute based at the Adelaide Law School.
